Travel from Lisbon with an English- or Spanish-speaking guide to Setúbal, its Livramento Market, and Troia Peninsula. In Comporta, an instructor matches you with a calm horse for a beginner-friendly ride through pine woods, rice fields, dunes, and along the Atlantic beach. Guides have included Artur, Miguel, Tom, and Flavio.

“We were looking for a different activity outside of Lisbon. I heard about Comporta but I’ve never imagined that I was so impressively beautiful. Surrounded by beautiful white sand beaches, pine forest and calm breeze, the horse ride was simply spectacular. The horses were very docile and calm, in fact it was my first time riding a horse but I felt secure in every moment. We also discovered Setubal, a charming fisherman city! Definitely a wonderful day thanks to our driver, Artur, he was so funny! He also gave us recommendations for the rest of our days in Portugal.”

Horse riding on the beach, with private transfer from Lisbon

5.Horse riding on the beach, with private transfer from Lisbon

★★★★★★★★★★4.3 · 6 reviews · from $275

Leave Lisbon by air-conditioned minivan for a horseback ride on Praia de Melides. You’ll ride a calm, experienced horse beside the Atlantic, with hotel pickup, insurance, photos, and a small group of up to eight. The ride is mostly at a walk, so it suits beginners more than advanced riders.

“- The driver is reliable and speaks good English. - You get free riding pictures. - The horses don't know the basics. - The horses are generally in moderate condition. - I am pretty sure that as a rider with completed riding tests, I have much more knowledge than the riding guide. - Despite selected English language, they speak bad English. - The whole tour was done only at a walk (no trot/ canter). - The car ride takes 1.5 h each way and the tour itself only 1.5 h (not clearly described on ad). - As a rider, this tour is not recommended, especially not for this price.Read more”
