At Homecooking Lisbon HUB, an English-speaking chef guides you through dough, custard, shaping, and baking pastel de nata. You will taste coffee, juice, Porto wine, and ginjinha, then enjoy your warm tarts. Instructors may include Marta, Bea, Miyuki, or Miguel.

Join English-speaking cooks Anna and Marta at Compadre Cooking School for a hands-on Lisbon baking class. You will shape pastel de nata, prepare a second Portuguese recipe, hear the pastry’s story, then sit down to taste your work and take home both recipes.

Join Cooking Lisbon at 6:30 pm for a hands-on Portuguese meal with a chef such as Gonçalo, Tomas, Ana, or Yvonne. Prepare fish, meat, and dessert as a group, taste olive oils and wine, then sit down to eat. Expect a friendly social class, though your personal cooking time can vary.

The cooking part of it was a little different to previous courses we have been on; this is a group-cook, which generates a meal between you, rather than each cooking every course. You don’t learn the cooking skills quite so much, but do get a good overview of a number of courses. We really enjoyed it, but my expectations were of a different format. At Compadre Cooking School, instructors such as Anna and Marta guide you through a hands-on Portuguese meal in about three hours. Prepare cod, a meat dish, and a starter at your own station, learn the stories behind the food, then sit down to eat together. Recipes are included.

Meet Cooking Lisbon at 9:30 am, walk to a local market with a chef such as Renata, Pedro, Paulo, or Carina, choose fresh seafood and produce, then cook and eat a Portuguese meal in a well-equipped kitchen. Groups are capped at 12, and allergies can be discussed in advance.
“What an amazing immersion experience with Chef Pedro! We started off the lesson visiting a local market where we shipped for fresh seafood and vegetables for our ingredients. While there we also got to sample local bread and cheeses. The class itself was a bit of work but lots of fun. Even my teenage daughter enjoyed rolling up her sleeves and learning to cook. We made a 4 course meal consisting of bread soup, mussels, seafood captaplana and orange torte. We also got to sample some oysters and goose barnacles. All in all a wonderful way to spend 1/2 a day learning more about the Portuguese culture. Highly recommend!”
Meet Paula at Cacilhas ferry terminal, browse her neighborhood market, then cook 2 to 3 Portuguese or Portuguese-Goan dishes in her home kitchen. This private, English-language experience lasts about 4.5 hours and includes a shared meal, dessert, coffee, or tea.
“I wanted to do something different and fun while I was in Lisbon. This was my fifth trip so I had done most of the tourist things. Paulinho's cooking class was just fantastic. She is very organized and considerate as to what you want to make. I cannot recommend this class enough. Do not let the ferry ride(10 min) deter you. It is very easy and your subway pass works on this as well.”
